What to Look for When Moving to Your First ApartmentWhat to Look for When Moving to Your First Apartment

The day when you are moving out of your parent’s house has finally arrived. This gives you the independence but it can quickly become a nightmare if you don’t weigh your options. These are the things to consider before moving to your first apartment

THE COMMUTE

It doesn’t matter how nice your apartment is if it takes you a 90minute commute to get to it. When looking for apartments, don’t forget check the routes between each location and your school or workplace.

CHECK THE LAUNDRY STATION

Check the distance between the nearest laundromat (you’ll have to go there in all types of weather!) and your place and the cost to do your laundry each month. These are things to consider if you do not have your own laundry station in your apartment.

CHECK OUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD

When you commit to a new apartment, you’re committing to a new neighborhood as well. Take some time to explore the area, if there is an affordable grocery store nearby, places you normally need to go to.

ASK ABOUT UTILITIES

Don’t forget to include other monthly expenses like heat, electricity, water, and Internet. If these aren’t included in the rent, ask the landlord or current tenants what these costs usually amount to.
